Is Apple Cider Vinegar the Answer to Your Client's Gut Issues?

Tanya Stricek RDH | Holistic Nutritionist

Many of us recommend apple cider vinegar (ACV) to clients for better digestion.

We've learned that in nutrition and functional health courses, and it's a pretty common practice shared on the internet! Vinegar is a safe and natural fermented product used in foods and health for thousands of years. Whether ingested or applied topically, apple cider vinegar has a pretty good reputation, and science says so.
BUT: Should every client be drinking vinegar?

IT DEPENDS.
Let's explore this for your clients.

Apple Cider Vinegar Improves Lipid Profile and Glycemic Parameters

A study for 2021, in the BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies Journal, shows that using apple cider vinegar may have an effect on blood lipid levels and glucose levels in adults.

High triglycerides and high blood sugar, are common metabolic disorders that affect many people, even outside of an aging population. Besides medications, lifestyle modifications are common interventions when it comes to watching blood sugar and triglycerides.

ACV is one lifestyle modification that may support your client. But there are so many more.

Findings from the meta-analysis (sourced below), highlights the application of ACV and how it may be helpful in controlling these metabolic issues.

ACV is indeed a safe product, positioned as a functional food, that can support clients with their health.

However, ACV isn't for everyone.

Are You Aware of the Side Effects of Apple Cider Vinegar?

There are side effects to ACV consumption, including stomach burning and vinegar intolerance. If you are working with a client with a metabolic disorder, they may be on medications that cause dry mouth, or xerostomia.

Adding acid to a dry mouth can erode tooth enamel and create other issues for that client.

Considering that the mouth, and it's saliva, is a key tool in proper digestion, causing harm to that much needed tooth enamel is NOT something we want to do as practitioners.

Besides, you're really not getting to the real digestive issue in the first place.

Digestive Stress can be Direct, or Indirect.

Digestive stress in your clients can have a direct cause, like h. pylori, or other microbes in the stomach, or indirect causes like mold exposure or even tick borne issues.

The Nervous System is a HUGE link to lack of stomach acid, which is why you're recommending that vinegar in the first place, correct?

Even the transition into menopause changes the gut microbiome, and ACV may not be what your client needs.

Helping Your Client is More Than Just Giving Blanket Suggestions

And you know that. That's why you're here.

We at CBH Energetics help you focus on bioindividuality for your clients, with bioenergetic testing and education that helps you create client centered protocols that FIT.

We do this with our unique bioenergetic testing process, that analyzes energetic stress within that digestive system, along with any energetic toxins that may be linked to that stress.

We Give You a Remote Testing System to Analyze Resonating Digestive Stress, and the Education to Pair With it.

Don't give up on that ACV.

You can dilute and use topically for minor skin irritations, for yourself and pets. The key is dilution, because it stings, and never use it on open wounds.

For clients with Candida or a variation of trichophyton, this can be an excellent topical support. ACV does have antifungal properties that can enhance skin health.
