Boost Brain Power: Top Ten Trends to Improve Brain Health

As holistic health practitioners, we have an incredible opportunity to help our clients boost brain power and improve brain health.

A well-rounded approach to wellness can integrate innovations such as bioenergetic testing, along with paving new brain pathways through rewiring the brain or simply supporting brain health through personalized nutrition.

The mind and the body cannot be separated, as we can see in the gut-brain connection. Nutrition remains at the forefront of good brain health, and eliminating things detrimental to the brain is just as important as adding foods to support the brain!

These top ten trends in brain health should be kept on your radar should you encounter someone with poor recall, brain fog, hormonal imbalances, and chronic stress. Environmental toxins are a key contributor to brain and body stress. As practitioners, we have many tools available to us to combat toxins and support the body's natural processes of detox, and bioenergetics is one of them.

1. Neuroplasticity and Cognitive Resilience: Embracing the Brain’s Ability to Heal

Neuroplasticity.
The brain’s innate ability to reorganize itself is gaining attention for its role in maintaining cognitive function, especially as we age. Holistic approaches emphasize creating the right conditions to support brain plasticity. Practices like mindfulness meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi have been shown to foster neuroplasticity.

Using your non-dominant hand also promotes the rewiring of the brain, as can learning new words or even a whole new language.

Brain rewiring exercises can build cognitive resilience and help protect against age-related decline and neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, combining cognitive exercises with physical movement and emotional well-being practices can significantly enhance mental sharpness.

2. The Gut-Brain Connection: Nourishing the Mind Through the Microbiome

The relationship between the gut microbiome and brain health has been on the wellness table for some time.  From a holistic health standpoint, supporting gut health is foundational for clients who want to improve brain health. A balanced microbiome is believed to influence everything from mood to weight to cognitive performance.

Probiotics, prebiotics, and gut-healing foods like bone broth or fermented vegetables can indirectly and directly nourish the gut and the brain. We can’t stop there. As practitioners, we need to think about gut imbalances like SIBO or parasites and how they stress the gut-brain connection. Bioenergetic testing is a fantastic and gentle at-home assessment that can look for energetic stressors on the digestive system and clear them for better gut and brain health.

The nervous system will continue to play a key role in brain health. Clients are increasingly recognizing that building stress resilience is a key foundation of wellness, thanks to your education!

Figuring out the specific client stressors is increasingly important in wellness coaching. They can be so varied! We’ll cover some of them at the end of this post.

3. Sleep as a Foundation of Cognitive Health

Holistic practitioners have long understood the profound connection between sleep and improving brain health. Quality sleep is essential for memory consolidation, emotional regulation, and cognitive function.

Chronic sleep deprivation, which modern lifestyles can exacerbate, has been linked to cognitive decline and mental health challenges. It also increases the stress response because lack of sleep is hard on the body! We all become more emotional and less focused without proper sleep.

Weight management can also suffer without sleep because the brain may chatter for more carbs or glucose, increasing appetite and caloric intake.

From a holistic perspective, sleep hygiene, including cultivating a relaxing bedtime routine, using herbs like valerian root, and addressing emotional stress, is something we can’t review enough with clients. Techniques like guided relaxation, aromatherapy, and acupuncture also show promise in supporting restorative sleep.

Our foundational lifestyle course has a detailed sleep checklist and is available to all of those who test with CBH Energetics, including Direct Affiliate clients!

4. Reducing Neuroinflammation: The Power of an Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle

Neuroinflammation is a hot topic in brain health research, particularly in relation to mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Holistic approaches focus on reducing systemic inflammation, particularly through:

→ Diet - incorporating as many anti-inflammatory foods as possible.
→ Daily movement to increase circulation and nitric oxide.
→ Breathwork to lower cortisol levels.

5. The Role of Technology: Mindful Integration of Digital Tools

While technology can be a powerful ally in brain health, holistic health professionals encourage a mindful approach to its integration. Brain-training apps and wearables can help track cognitive performance and offer exercises to improve focus, memory, and mental agility.

However, it's important to balance these digital tools with activities that nourish the brain in more organic ways, like nature walks, social interactions, and creative pursuits.

Keep in mind the stress that EMF places on the brain! This is one of the stressors we bioenergetically test for in our Brain and Body Scans. EMF can play a role in imbalanced hormones (it can stress the thyroid) and may even influence cellular metabolism.

As a practitioner, you already advising a limit on screen time and encouraging clients to engage in activities that ground them and promote a deeper connection to themselves and their environment.

6. Nutritional Interventions: Supporting Brain Health Through Whole Foods

Nutrition is at the heart of brain health in holistic health practice. A nutrient-dense, whole-food diet rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and essential vitamins to support brain function and protect the brain should be a key part of your coaching and education.

Finding and correcting nutritional imbalances is a wonderful way to boost your clients' brain health. Our tests look for fatty acid imbalances from aå bioenergetic perspective, and we assess:

→ ALA: Alpha Linoleic Acid
→ EPA
→ DHA
→ CLA
→ GLA

Many of our affiliate practitioners focus on balancing Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids and incorporate different types based on body system stress in test results.

Dropping processed foods, refined sugars, and food additives, which can contribute to inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain, is part of the strategy behind our Brain Scans.

7. Bioenergetic Testing

Holistic practitioners are increasingly interested in trying to improve brain health to thwart issues like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Prevention strategies, such as regular brain health assessments, personalized nutrition plans, and targeted supplements, are increasingly commonplace. One such assessment is bioenergetic testing. CBH Energetics has developed the Brain Scan, which is a revolutionary way to look at the energetic health of the brain. The Brain Scan assesses:

→ 11 Areas of the brain for stress.
→ Your client's top imbalanced neurotransmitter.
→ Food sensitivities that create bioenergetic stress.
→ The top 3 hormones that are linked to bioenergetic brain stress.
→ Multiple stress factors, including heavy metals, bacteria, and other stressors.
→ Top emotional patterns that affect the client's mindset
→ Personalized balanced practices for the brain.
→ Custom optional remedies that help to clear and support your client.

8. Mindful Use of Psychedelics: Exploring Consciousness and Healing

Recent research into psychedelics like psilocybin and MDMA has ignited conversations about their potential therapeutic benefits, particularly for individuals with treatment-resistant mental health conditions like PTSD, anxiety, and depression. In the holistic realm, these substances are viewed as tools for expanding consciousness and enhancing self-awareness when used mindfully and with intention.

Practices like guided plant medicine ceremonies, along with psychological integration work, can support clients in utilizing these substances for profound mental and emotional healing.

While these are not part of our suggested bioenergetic practices that may come with our brain scans, we wanted to point them out as growing trends. We have licensed professionals who use our testing and may work with these practices with clients.

The ever-changing climate of holistic and alternative health requires us to keep an open mind. What we provide in the way of plant medicine is custom-balanced herbal and homeopathic remedies that are optional for your client to purchase through your affiliate account.

9. Exercise: Movement as Medicine for the Brain

Physical exercise is foundational to brain health in holistic practice. Regular movement, particularly aerobic exercise, has been shown to stimulate the growth of new neurons and promote neuroplasticity.

Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi are also beneficial, offering mental and physical benefits by promoting mindfulness, improving circulation, and reducing stress.

Licensed and certified health professionals often advocate for movement that feels intuitive, joyful, and integrative, recognizing that consistent physical activity is one of the most effective ways to maintain brain function throughout life.

10. Hormonal Balance and Brain Health: Navigating Life Stages

Hormonal fluctuations, especially during menopause or andropause, can significantly impact brain function. With an aging population, both men and women will seek hormonal balance and wellness tools.

Holistic practitioners focus on natural ways to support hormonal balance, such as through herbs like ashwagandha, maca root, and adaptogens, as well as lifestyle adjustments.

Adaptogens can do wonders for calming the nervous system. After working with thousands upon thousands of clients and practitioners, we know that adaptogenic herbs need to be very specific and tailored to client needs. Every brain and nervous system will respond differently to an adaptogenic herb. This is why we say, “Test, don’t guess!”

Looking forward, the field of brain health is moving toward a more integrative, holistic approach—recognizing that the brain's health is deeply connected to the whole body's health.

By combining modern scientific research with traditional wisdom and practices, holistic health professionals are uniquely positioned to guide individuals toward a balanced, brain-healthy lifestyle that supports mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Helping your client with their glymphatic system through proper sleep and incorporating gentle detox practices through herbs and homeopathy can improve brain health.

These trends - and our guide - offer exciting possibilities for you as a holistic health practitioner to incorporate brain health into your practice. From nutrition and exercise to mindfulness and alternative therapies, a comprehensive approach to brain health ensures that clients not only survive but thrive in the face of modern challenges.
